Government Orders Rent Waiver for Crown Property at Thai-Cambodian Border

Bangkok: The government has mandated all state agencies to support people impacted by the Thai-Cambodian border dispute, including a two-month rent waiver for Crown property to ease financial burdens.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson, stated that the government has instructed agencies to expedite aid for residents affected by the unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border. The focus is on those whose livelihoods and access to leased government land have been disrupted, an issue classified as a public disaster under Section 4 of the 2007 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act.

To address these challenges, the Treasury Department, Ministry of Finance, has initiated a measure to “waive rent on all types of Crown property for a period of 2 months.” This waiver is aimed at tenants in disaster-affected regions unable to utilize their rental properties as usual. The measure applies to seven provinces: Surin, Sisaket, Ubon Ratchathani, Buriram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat.

Tenants interested in this relief measure can apply starting today at the Treasury Office in their property’s respective area. This initiative is available to all tenant types in regions designated by the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center or through provincial announcements.

Ms. Sasikarn emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing comprehensive measures to provide optimal care for people, particularly in vulnerable areas severely impacted by the border situation. “It is the government’s duty to provide the best possible care for its people in all situations,” she added.
