Bangkok: The government is preparing to hold an event to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, on the occasion of her birthday on August 12, 2025.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Yupha Thaweewattanakitborworn, Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that the Prime Minister has requested royal permission on behalf of the government to organize activities in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother on her birthday.
The planned activities include a series of religious ceremonies, which will commence with a Buddhist chanting ceremony and alms-giving ceremony at 7:30 a.m. on August 12, 2025. The central government will host the event at Sanam Luang, with participation from 194 monks. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, acting as Prime Minister, along with his wife, will preside over the ceremony. Regional provinces will hold similar ceremonies at provincial halls or other suitable locations, and Thai embassies and consulates abroad will consider organizing equivalent events. Additionally, the National Office of Buddhism has proposed that all temples in Thailand hold a ceremony to chant Buddhist mantras and meditate to offer royal merit, with Thai temples overseas encouraged to do the same.
Mrs. Yupha further explained that a royal tribute and wreath-laying ceremony, followed by a candle-lighting ceremony, will be held on August 12, 2025, at 5:30 PM and 7:19 PM, respectively. Sanam Luang will host the central ceremony, led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, acting as Prime Minister, and his wife. In all provincial areas, ceremonies will take place at provincial halls, while embassies and consulates abroad will make suitable arrangements. On August 13, 2025, a ceremony will take place to invite royal tribute and wreath-laying offerings from participating agencies to Sanam Luang for submission to His Majesty the King at Phra Varun Yu Chen Gate, Chitralada Royal Villa.
Volunteer activities for public benefit and charity in honor of Her Majesty the Queen will be organized throughout August 2025. Government agencies, the private sector, and the public are invited to show their gratitude and loyalty by participating in various activities. They are also encouraged to display a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, alongside royal offerings, and decorate venues with her portrait, the Thai national flag, a flag with the royal monogram “?.?.”, and blue and white drapes on agency buildings and homes between August 1-31, 2025. Wishes for auspicious blessings will be published on agency websites and online media, and a well-wishes signing ceremony will be held within agencies or on their websites.
