Bangkok: The government has reiterated its commitment to fully support the military in its efforts to care for the people, amidst reports of fake donation requests circulating in public media. The deputy government spokesman, Mr. Anukul Prueksanusak, emphasized that the Royal Thai Army does not solicit donations and receives adequate government support for its operations.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anukul clarified that news reports suggesting that Royal Thai Army units were seeking or accepting donations from the public or organizations are untrue. The Royal Thai Army has stated that such claims are misleading, as the army receives necessary disbursements and support from government systems to fulfill its missions. The public has been urged to disregard fake news, particularly those affecting national security and the Thai-Cambodian border situation. The Anti-Fake News Center has identified significant amounts of false information being spread online, urging the public to be wary of influencers promoting fake donation pages that could disrupt border security.
For those wishing to offer support to military units in border areas, Mr. Anukul provided contact information for various army regions. These include several task forces in Sa Kaeo Province, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Ubon Ratchathani Province, Sisaket Province, Surin Province, and Buriram Province, as well as the Department of Civil Affairs of the Royal Thai Army in Bangkok. Additionally, Thai citizens can send relief items to disaster victims at the Thai-Cambodian border through the ‘Thai-Cambodian Disaster Relief P.O. Box’ at post offices nationwide, with a weight limit of 5 kilograms per box, at no charge.
Mr. Anukul stressed the government’s readiness to support the army and acknowledged the collaborative efforts between the government and the military for national benefit and public peace. He expressed gratitude for the encouragement and kindness shown by the public towards army personnel, which serves as motivation for them to protect sovereignty and ensure public safety in the Thai-Cambodian border area. He advised the public to be cautious of misinformation and rely solely on government agency information to avoid scams and potential financial loss.
