Bangkok: Government spokesman confirms that no Thai-Cambodian border checkpoints will be closed, reassuring that today there are many tourists during the long holiday, and that business is normal. He urged some groups not to incite or stir up conflict, emphasizing that it is not beneficial for all Thai people.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra has been actively monitoring the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border. She has been receiving regular updates from security forces and relevant agencies, all of which confirmed that there is no directive to close any of the border checkpoints, contrary to recent reports.
Currently, the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border remains stable, with all checkpoints operating normally. Both Thai and Cambodian citizens continue to cross the border for their daily activities without interruption. The export of goods from Thailand to Cambodia is continuing as usual, with a particularly high volume of activity noted due to the onset of a 4-day long holiday. This influx of Thai and foreign tourists is contributing to the bustling atmosphere at the checkpoints.
Mr. Jirayu also highlighted concerns about certain groups attempting to create tensions between the two nations, warning that such actions are detrimental to Thailand’s population of over 70 million. He assured the public that there is no cause for concern at the checkpoints and advised against believing or sharing unverified information online.
He further clarified, “The news that 6 checkpoints and 10 relaxation points on the Thai-Cambodian border will be closed is not true. There is no closure, no order from the central government, and I confirm that no checkpoints will be closed. The Prime Minister has assigned security forces and officials to take care of and facilitate during the 4-day long holiday continuously,” affirmed Mr. Jirayu.
