Gov’t applies various policies to prevent COVID-19 3rd wave: Minister

The government implements several law enforcement policies in an effort to prevent the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic before and after the Christmas 2021 and New Year 2022 period.

“For instance, Home Affairs Minister’s circular letter will be issued for the implementation and enforcement of PeduliLindungi,” Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy said during a press conference on Zoom here on Tuesday.

During the “Final Preparation Against Christmas and New Year Holiday” press conference, Effendy highlighted that related ministries and institutions will conduct several activities to prevent the next wave of COVID-19.

First is the Candle Operation to be conducted from December 24, 2021, to January 2, 2022.

“However, pre-operation activities have been conducted seven days before the operation began,” he noted.

“Activities will also be conducted by the police, military, and law enforcement authorities in the respective regions during the seven days after the operation is over,” the minister noted.

The second activity is the bolstering of workers as a precautionary measure against the impact of public mobility in all areas, such as malls, restaurants, toll road, and tourism destinations, Effendy noted.

“Related ministries and institutions expedite the examination process and reduce the PCR result waiting time at entry points to prevent lengthy queues of international travellers from land, sea, and air,” he affirmed.

The fourth activity is to make the PeduliLindungi application as the foundation in penalizing certain parties not adhering to the regulation while operating on the field, he remarked.

Lastly, effective public communication is deemed necessary with the narrative that the government is implementing these policies to prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially with the emergence of Omicron.

Effendy noted that the government, through related ministries and institutions, has already readied food stocks required for Christmas and New Year.
