Bangkok: A tragic incident unfolded in Samut Prakan Province when a 39-year-old man was fatally bitten by a cobra in his home. Before succumbing to the venom, he made a poignant call to his grandmother, asking her if she loved him.
According to Thai News Agency, Bang Sao Thong Police, along with forensic doctors from the Ramachakri Naruebodindra Institute and rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, arrived at the scene to investigate. The man’s body was found in his office room on the second floor of his residence in Si Sa Chorakhe Yai Subdistrict. Fang wounds on his left wrist indicated that he had been dead for at least two hours. Nearby, a nearly one-meter-long black cobra was discovered; specialists in snake catching were called in to capture the snake and document it for evidence. The body was subsequently sent to the Ramachakri Naruebodindra Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death.
The man’s grandmother, 74-year-old Grandma Lek, recounted that her grandson called her around 6:40 a.m. to ask if she loved him. She affirmed her love for him, after which he revealed he had been bitten by a cobra. He requested her to manage his affairs if he did not survive. During the call, he became incoherent before falling silent. Grandma Lek immediately contacted another granddaughter to check on him. Upon arrival, family members found him unresponsive and attempted resuscitation, but it was unfortunately too late. He lived alone, and it is suspected that he encountered the cobra in his home and attempted to capture it, resulting in the fatal bite.
Following the incident, rescue workers secured the cobra in a ziplock bag and handed it over to firefighters from the Bang Cho Long Subdistrict Administrative Organization. The snake was transported to the Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute to extract venom for anti-venom production before being released back into the wild.
