Chiang Mai: A 27-year-old man was seriously injured after being shot three times by another individual who attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute outside a nail salon in downtown Chiang Mai. The shooter, identified as Mr. Pithaya, a caretaker of a local guesthouse, has been charged with multiple offenses following the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, the confrontation was captured on CCTV, revealing that Mr. Pithaya had attempted to stop a couple from engaging in a loud argument. The altercation escalated when the husband reportedly used foul language against Pithaya. In response, Pithaya challenged the individual to step outside the premises before producing a 9 mm pistol and firing three shots, leaving the victim with serious injuries. Following the shooting, Pithaya fled the scene on a motorcycle but later contacted authorities to surrender.
Chiang Mai City Police have since taken Mr. Pithaya into custody for questioning and are continuing their investigation, which includes a search for th
e firearm used in the incident. The charges brought against him include attempted intentional murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and carrying a firearm in a public area without justification. The victim, although seriously injured, is now in a stable condition. It has also been revealed that Mr. Pithaya has a prior conviction, having served a five-year prison sentence for a drug-related offense in 2019. After his release, he relocated to Chiang Mai Province, where he became involved in this recent violent incident.
