Hanoi – The capital city of Hanoi is hosting a variety of activities in its Old Quarter to commemorate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, which is observed on November 23. The management board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter initiated these events on November 18, showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Vietnam.
According to Vietnam News Agency, one of the highlights is an exhibition on tuong, the classical Vietnamese drama art form, set to be held at the Hanoi Old Quarter Culture Exchange Centre on Dao Duy Tu street on November 25. This exhibition aims to introduce visitors to the evolution of tuong from a folk to a royal art form, which occurred in the 17th century.
Additionally, an event celebrating Vietnam’s traditional tea culture was held on November 18 and 19 at the Heritage House. This event provided insights into the country’s longstanding tea-enjoying customs.
At Kim Ngan Temple, visitors have the opportunity to admire Kim Hoang folk paintings and calligraphy works. The centre is also set to serve as a space for cultural exchanges among various localities in Vietnam. Ceramic artworks from Hanoi’s Bat Trang and Phu Yen’s Dong Hoa craft villages are featured in the exhibition.
Moreover, Hanoian lacquer products are on display at the Dong Lac communal house, showcasing the city’s craftsmanship in this traditional art form.
In addition to these exhibitions, the Hanoi Creative Design Week 2023 commenced on the evening of November 19 at the Cultural and Arts Centre. This event is part of the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2023, which runs from November 17 to 26.
The activities, which will continue until December 17, are aimed at preserving and promoting Vietnam’s traditional culture. They also serve to introduce this rich heritage to the world, thereby enhancing tourism in the capital. This year’s celebration marks the 18th anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, which was first observed in 2005.
