Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Northeast, East, and West Coast of Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about heavy rainfall in specific areas of Thailand, particularly affecting the Northeast, East, and the western coast of the South. This includes the provinces of Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, and Phang Nga. The department has advised residents to be cautious of potential dangers due to heavy rain.

According to Thai News Agency, the forecast indicates that the northeastern, eastern, and western southern regions of Thailand will experience thunderstorms and heavy rain over the next 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has highlighted the risk of flash floods and mudslides, especially on hillsides near waterways and low-lying areas, as a result of accumulated rain. This weather pattern is attributed to a monsoon trough passing over northern Laos, extending into a low-pressure area over Laos and northern Vietnam, compounded by a moderate southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Maritime conditions in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are also expected to be challenging, with moderate waves. In the upper Andaman Sea, wave heights are projected to reach approximately 2 meters, with even higher waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms. Similarly, the upper Gulf of Thailand and lower Andaman Sea are expected to have waves ranging from 1 to 2 meters, increasing in storm conditions. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm-prone areas.

Additionally, Typhoon “Podul” is moving through the Pacific Ocean, anticipated to pass Taiwan and make landfall in eastern China tonight. However, this storm is not expected to affect Thailand.

Bangkok and its surrounding areas are predicted to have thunderstorms, with a 60% likelihood of rain. The forecasted temperatures for Bangkok are a minimum of 25-26 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 34-36 degrees Celsius.
