Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rain in several parts of Thailand, particularly affecting the provinces of Tak, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant as the weather conditions may lead to flash floods and mudslides.
According to Thai News Agency, the warning comes as the monsoon trough is making its way through the lower northern, upper central, and northeastern regions of Thailand. This is compounded by a strong southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The department’s forecast indicates that heavy rain is expected over the next 24 hours, with a significant risk of flash floods and mudslides, especially in hillside areas, near waterways, and low-lying regions.
In maritime news, the upper Andaman Sea is experiencing moderate waves about 2 meters high, with even higher waves in thunderstorm-prone areas. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are seeing waves between 1-2 meters, with potential for higher surges during thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in storm-affected areas.
In addition to these warnings, the regional weather forecast highlights widespread thunderstorms across various parts of Thailand. In the Bangkok area, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the region with temperatures ranging from 25-35 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the northern region can expect thunderstorms in 60% of the area, particularly affecting Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, and Phetchabun provinces.
The northeastern region anticipates thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain forecasted in provinces such as Nakhon Ratchasima and Roi Et, while the central region will see similar weather patterns in provinces like Nakhon Sawan and Kanchanaburi. The eastern region, including Chanthaburi and Trat, is also on alert for heavy rainfall, with temperatures hovering between 31-34 degrees Celsius.
In the southern regions, both the east and west coasts are forecasted to experience significant thunderstorms, with heavy rain expected in provinces like Phuket, Ranong, and Phang Nga. Waves are predicted to reach over 2 meters in height in areas affected by thunderstorms, posing additional challenges for maritime activities.
