Heavy Rainfall and Sea Warnings Issued Across Southern Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of ongoing heavy rainfall across Thailand, specifically highlighting the southern region as experiencing the most significant downpour.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has announced that thunderstorms and heavy rain will persist across the country, with particular concern for the Southern region. Residents in the South are cautioned to prepare for heavy rain and sea waves reaching heights of 1-2 meters. The increased rainfall in the South is attributed to the intersection of northwesterly and northeasterly winds, which is expected to result in very heavy rain in certain areas.

The Central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, along with the Eastern region, is also anticipated to experience thunderstorms and heavy rain. This weather pattern is driven by a monsoon trough passing through the lower North, Central, Eastern, and lower Northeastern regions. A moderate southwest monsoon continues to influence weather cond
itions over the Andaman Sea, the Southern region, and the Gulf of Thailand. The department advises residents in these areas to remain vigilant due to the potential dangers of heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to flash floods and landslides, especially on hillsides near waterways and lowlands.

In the maritime regions, moderate wave activity is reported in the upper Andaman Sea, with waves 1-2 meters high. The lower Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to see waves of approximately 1 meter. However, areas experiencing thunderstorms could see waves exceeding 2 meters. Mariners are urged to proceed with caution and avoid navigating through thunderstorm-affected areas.
