Drunk Driver Vows to Quit Drinking After Causing Serious Accident

Bangkok: A 24-year-old man wept and apologized to victims after his sedan crashed into the back of a motorcycle, seriously injuring three people. He vowed to quit drinking for the rest of his life.

According to Thai News Agency, Panupong, a 24-year-old man, expressed deep remorse after his sedan collided with the rear of a motorcycle on Rojana Road, outbound, near the Ayutthaya overpass in Khlong Suan Phlu subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district. The accident, which occurred at 1:30 a.m., left the motorcycle driver and two passengers seriously injured. One of the victims, a woman, was unconscious and sustained a nearly severed right leg. Rescue teams administered first aid before she was rushed to Rajathanee Hospital, while the other two injured were taken to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital for treatment.

After witnessing the aftermath, Mr. Panupong was overwhelmed by emotion, collapsing in tears and praying for the safety of the injured. He repeatedly vowed to give up alcohol permanently, expressing profound regret over the incident.

Witnesses recounted seeing the sedan, driven by Mr. Panupong, ascend the bridge and crash into the motorcycle, forcibly throwing both vehicles against the bridge edge before they plummeted below. The sedan overturned, and the motorcycle along with its riders were propelled into the grass beside the road.

Investigators meticulously documented the scene before escorting Mr. Panupong to the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station for further questioning. He was subsequently taken to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital for a blood alcohol test to determine the charges and legal actions to follow.
