Bangkok: The House of Representatives held a solemn moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives in the recent border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. The session, chaired by House Speaker Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, acknowledged the sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians during the ongoing violence.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Krumanit Sangphum, an MP for Surin from the Pheu Thai Party, addressed the House regarding the violent incidents that have occurred since July 24th. He highlighted Surin Province as one of the most affected areas due to its strategic structures and emphasized the importance of modern military equipment to prevent further casualties. Mr. Krumanit, who experienced the conflict firsthand, expressed skepticism about the ceasefire, noting that continued vigilance and strategic defense are necessary to protect the residents.

Mr. Krumanit also called on the government to provide support to the families of the 15 soldiers who lost their lives, suggesting compensation, promotions, or educational opportunities for their children. He praised the efforts of F-16s and Gripens in aiding the situation and drew attention to the plight of evacuees in Surin Province. He noted that the Ministry of Public Health is offering comprehensive care, including addressing mental health issues like psychosis and depression, as many evacuees struggle with homesickness and loss of appetite.

Additionally, Mr. Krumanit urged the government to assist evacuees staying with relatives, who face increased living costs. He suggested waiving this month’s electricity bills and reallocating the 100 million baht designated for government centers to individual households. This proposal awaits approval from the Ministry of Finance, which has expressed readiness to support it.

Concluding the session, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor acknowledged the injuries and fatalities among civilians and officials due to the border fighting. He expressed the House’s support for those affected and extended condolences to the families of the deceased, inviting all members to observe a minute of silence in tribute.
