Hun Manet Orders Closure of Cambodian Checkpoints in Response to Thai Action

Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has ordered the closure of two border crossings in retaliation to the Thai government’s decision to shut down the Chong Sai Taku border crossing.

According to Thai News Agency, at 07.00 a.m., Hun Manet announced on his personal Facebook page that the Ban Chup Kokhi checkpoint in Banteay Ampil District, Oddar Meanchey Province, would remain closed until Thailand reopens the Chong Sai Taku checkpoint. The Cambodian Prime Minister’s decision followed a notification from the Thai 2nd Army Region to the governor of Oddar Meanchey Province about the indefinite closure of the Chong Sai Taku border checkpoint.

In addition to shutting down the Ban Chup Kokhi checkpoint, Hun Manet has also authorized the closure of the Chong Chum checkpoint located in Allong Veng District, Oddar Meanchey Province. The Cambodian government plans to inform the governors of Buriram and Sisaket Provinces in Thailand about this decision.

The closure of these checkpoints affects the points opposite the Chong Sai Taku checkpoint in Ban Kruat District, Buriram Province, and the Chong Sangam checkpoint in Phusing District, Sisaket Province.
