Improve access to tourism spots in Solok District: Minister

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno called to improve accessibility to tourism destinations in Solok District, West Sumatra Province, in order to attract more visitors.

“It needs to be enhanced, so tourists will be more interested in coming to Solok District in future. Thus, the district’s potentials can improve welfare of the community,” he stated while enjoying the beauty of Lake Singkarak from atop the hill at Cinangkiek Dream Park, here, on Wednesday.

The minister remarked that the district has various tourism attraction potentials, including traditional arts, natural tourism destinations, and artificial tourism objects, which can encourage development of the regional economy.

In addition, there are various micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) potentials.

Meanwhile, Cinangkiek Dream Park is a local artificial tourism object that has exceptional beauty, with the scenery of Lake Singkarak.

Hence, in addition to improving accessibility, the minister is optimistic that the ecosystem in Singkarak Lake would be maintained well owing to the Sumatran endemic fish Mystacoleucus padangensis (locally called ‘ikan bilih’) living in the lake.

Head of Solok District Epyardi Asda lauded the minister’s visit that could kindle the spirit to further boost the region’s tourism and MSMEs sectors.

Asda noted that the district had abundant tourism potentials. Hence, his side is targeting that in future, tourism will become a leading sector in improving the economy and community in the region.

In addition to the tourism sector, Solok District has abundant natural resources, such as the local rice variant called ‘bareh solok’ that is known for its taste.

The district head also praised the assistance provided by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry for the development of tourism at Singkarak Lake.

Asda expressed optimism that the ministry’s support would advance the tourism and MSMEs sectors in the region.

“We hope that in future, the development of road access to other tourism places in Solok District would be facilitated,” he added.
