Improving MSMEs products ahead of G20: East Belitung govt

The East Belitung district government, Bangka Belitung (Babel) Islands, has said it has been striving to improve the quality of products made by local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) ahead of G20 side events.

“We hope that amid the implementation of G20 (events), small business actors can boost the marketing of their products while maintaining the quality of the items,” Head of the district’s Manpower and MSMEs Office Gustaf Pilandra remarked here on Saturday.

Belitung Islands Province has been selected to host the conference of the development ministers of G20 member nations in September 2022, he informed.

“Currently, we have conducted an assessment to ensure that the products meet the halal and hygiene requirements and standards,” he said.

He said his office has inaugurated the Entrepreneurial Community Movement (Gemawira), which will help MSME actors to improve the quality of their products.

“Gemawira is a socialpreneur organization whose members are independent MSMEs players who provide entrepreneurial training, guidance, and development,” the office head added.

The organization is the district government’s partner in nurturing small business actors, he said.

“The inauguration is the starting point for Gemawira. It will also facilitate us to synergize fostering our local MSMEs actors,” he added.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo had expressed hope that preparations for Indonesia’s 2022 G20 Presidency would not only focus on the implementation of the events, but would also have a positive impact on national and global socio-economic recovery.

Thus, the implementation of G20 side events is expected to showcase the superiority of Indonesian local products, he said.

Hence, the events will be held in a number of regions throughout Indonesia to promote the nation’s cultural diversity, tourism, and investment potential, he added.

At least 121 side events have been scheduled from December 2021 to November 2022.
