Indonesia needs digital talents to drive economy: minister

Indonesia still needs as many quality digital talents as possible to drive the national economy, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, has said.

“To recover the national economy, we strive to increase Indonesia’s digital talents through a variety of programs,” he informed during the unveiling of the 2022 IDCamp here on Friday.

Uno, who attended the event virtually, said that to create digital talents, the government has invited all parties, including the private sector, to organize a variety of programs, such as the IDCamp.

To this end, the minister lauded Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison for organizing the IDCamp, which has been held since 2019, as part of the effort to create quality digital talents.

“It is expected that with many digital talents, the national economy will improve and it can compete in the increasingly competitive international market,” he remarked.

The company’s president director and CEO, Vikram Sinha, said that IDCamp is one of its corporate social responsibility programs on the digital education pillar to handle the lack of globally certified digital talents within the country.

“We seek to present an inclusive technological force and provide a series of digital skills necessary for future leaders that will contribute to the nation’s digital economy,” he explained.

IDCamp is a scholarship program offered by the company to support young Indonesian developers or programmers and prepare them to compete in the digital economy world.

Within the first three years of its establishment, IDCamp has managed to support 110,735 recipients, with almost 30 thousand developers certified through the program.

IDCamp is now targeting to offer online coding scholarships to 55 thousand participants. Last year, the program managed to award 46,025 scholarships.
