Indonesia to become fourth-strongest economy by 2045: Minister Thohir

State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir estimates that Indonesia will become the fourth-strongest economy in 2045 on account of its growth rate improving with each passing year.

“2045 is our maximum point. With continuous growth, we will become the fourth-largest country on earth,” Minister Thohir remarked while visiting Vihara Dharma Bhakti to celebrate Chinese New Year here on Tuesday.

However, the minister pointed to several things that should be overcome if Indonesia has to be at par with other strong economic countries.

Thohir emphasized the need for harmony and unity between people and races among community groups, so that the foundation of the country for progress grows stronger.

The minister also highlighted the struggle of the heroes, who made Indonesia an independent country by relying on unity and integrity.

“It is in line with our ‘founding father’, Soekarno and Hatta, who proved that Bhineka Tunggal Ika, Pancasila, NKRI (the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia) are a force,” Thohir stated.

Thohir is optimistic that the Lunar New Year would further strengthen harmony between ethnic groups and religious communities, so that Indonesia will avoid potential divisions that could further worsen the economy.

Minister Thohir visited Vihara Dharma Bhakti in the Taman Sari area of West Jakarta while greeting residents.

He wore a red batik shirt and arrived at around 8 a.m. local time along with a convoy of guards from the police.

The minister, upon arrival, was immediately greeted by Chairman of the Vihara Dharma Bhakti Management, Shirley Wijaya and Jusuf Hamka.

Apart from the two people, the minister was also welcomed by residents engaged in the Chinese New Year worship in the temple.
