Indonesian Tea Shines at ‘TEATOPIA 2026’ in Vancouver

Vancouver:The aroma and flavour of Indonesian tea captivated visitors at the 'World Tea Culture and Arts Expo (TEATOPIA) 2026', which took place from October 31 to November 2, 2026, at The Westin Bayshore in Vancouver. The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Vancouver showcased a variety of Indonesian tea products, aiming to introduce the country’s rich tea traditions and quality to Canadian audiences.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Indonesia, 'TEATOPIA 2026' is a cultural event that integrates tea, art, cultural heritage, lifestyle, and wellness. This year's gathering featured 50 exhibitors from 22 countries and drew over 2,000 visitors. In addition to the exhibition, the event offered workshops, discussion sessions, and artistic performances.

At the tea zone, attendees sampled various Indonesian teas and learned about the diverse tea-drinking traditions found across the archipelago. The products exhibited included loose-leaf white, green, and black teas, as well as tea bags in six different flavors. This participation underscored the potential for Indonesian tea to expand its presence among Canadian consumers, complementing its availability in several local retail chains.

In addition to tea, Indonesian organic moringa leaf powder garnered attention from visitors. This product can be enjoyed as a brewed drink or blended into smoothies, presenting a versatile option for naturally sourced food products.

During the 'TEATOPIA Global Tea Brand and Strategic Cooperation Forum', a representative from an Indonesian diaspora-owned business presented the historical journey of tea in Indonesia. The presentation highlighted the first tea planting in Batavia in 1684, the introduction of Javanese tea to the Amsterdam auction market in 1835, and its evolving presence in international markets, including Canada.

At the 'TEATOPIA 2026 Closing Gala', KJRI Vancouver was awarded an honorary certificate in recognition of Indonesia's active participation and support for the event. This engagement reflects KJRI Vancouver's commitment to expanding market access for Indonesian tea and food products in Canada, alongside efforts to promote business networks and strengthen Indonesia-Canada relations through economic and cultural diplomacy.
