Indonesia’s daily COVID cases surpass 2021 peak, reach 57,049

Indonesia added 57,049 daily COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, crossing the 2021 national peak of 56,757 daily cases, according to the COVID-19 Handling Task Force.

Most of the new infections reported on Tuesday were contributed by West Java (14,058), followed by Jakarta (9,482), East Java (7,528), Banten (6,509), Central Java (3,514), and Bali (1,862).

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries increased by 26,747, with Jakarta reporting the highest recoveries (9,103), followed by West Java (5,739), East Java (3,618), Banten (3,350), Bali (1,785), and Central Java (1,207).

Meanwhile, deaths due to COVID-19 increased by 134 people nationally as of Tuesday, with Jakarta reporting 50 deaths, Central Java 21, East Java 15, and Bali 14.

With Tuesday’s addition to national daily cases, the total COVID-19 case count reached 4,901,328. Meanwhile, total recoveries were recorded at 4,349,848 and total deaths at 145,455.

Furthermore, the number of active cases increased by 30,168 to reach 406,025, while 35,594 suspected cases were identified, and 582,828 specimens examined on Tuesday.

Taking note of the case surge, the COVID-19 Task Force urged the public to remain disciplined in carrying out health protocols, including wearing masks, washing hands with soap and water, keeping physical distance, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility.

Meanwhile, the number of people receiving the full dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Indonesia increased by 833,899 on Tuesday to reach 136,647,928, the task force reported.

The number of people obtaining the first dose shot up by 252,141 to reach 188,590,685.

On Tuesday, 218,237 people were injected with the booster shot, taking the total number of third-dose recipients to 7,277,382.
