Indonesia’s Nickel Downstreaming Generates $33.9 Billion in Export Value

Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, announced yesterday that the country generated 33.9 billion U.S. dollars in nickel export value last year, driven by the growth of its nickel downstream industry.

According to Nam News Network, the surge in export value can be attributed to the government’s decision to ban nickel ore exports, which was announced in 2019 and took effect on January 1, 2020. This strategic move has significantly boosted the country’s nickel downstream industry.

Bahlil Lahadalia highlighted that the nickel downstreaming has also impacted global perceptions of Indonesia. The country’s achievements in this sector have intensified global business competition, showcasing Indonesia’s increasing influence in the global nickel market.
