Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno noted that 70 percent of graduates of tourism polytechnics under the ministry are absorbed by the industry.
“Alhamdulillah (thank God), 30 percent of the alumni of tourism polytechnics can start their own businesses,” he remarked while attending the 3rd graduation event of the Lombok Tourism Polytechnic at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit here on Friday.
Uno expressed optimism that the graduates of Lombok Tourism Polytechnic would prepare themselves to welcome local, national, and international events in West Nusa Tenggara.
“For example, the MXGP will be held next year. Thus, it is hoped that polytechnic graduates can support all events in regions,” he remarked.
The minister lauded the successful implementation of the World Superbike (WSBK) 2022 that surpassed the number of WSBK spectators in the UK by reaching over 51 thousand.
“I hope next year’s WSBK would be more attractive, with different features and more activities,” he said.
To this end, he invited Lombok Tourism Polytechnic’s students to continue to learn from job opportunities as, in 2022, the government was targeting to create 1.1 million job opportunities in tourism and creative economy and 4.4 million job opportunities in 2024.
“Of course, those who will fill them are the nation’s generations who have skills or expertise,” he remarked.
Earlier, Minister Uno expressed optimism that the tourism sector would record continued growth despite the potential for a recession and economic slowdown in 2023 by prioritizing human resource development through investment in education.
“Tourism Polytechnic will be built at two new locations, Greater Solo (Central Java) and Manado (North Sulawesi),” he remarked.
Currently, six tourism polytechnics under the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy are the NHI Bandung Tourism Polytechnic, Bali Tourism Polytechnic, Makassar Tourism Polytechnic, Medan Tourism Polytechnic, Palembang Tourism Polytechnic, and Lombok Tourism Polytechnic.
