Islamic Mission Secretariat Calls for Inclusion in National Education Budget

Accra: Alhaji Ahmed Yusif Asante, National Chairman of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS), has made a public appeal for support from the Ministry of Education and the Ghana TVET Service to incorporate Islamic Mission Senior High/Technical and TVET schools into the national education budget. He emphasized that such inclusion would provide much-needed financial relief, particularly in terms of teachers' salaries and student feeding costs, thereby easing the burden on the schools' management. According to Ghana News Agency, Alhaji Asante highlighted significant infrastructure challenges faced by the Islamic Mission Senior High/Technical and TVET schools, which were established by the IMS five years ago. These challenges include a lack of adequate dormitories, classroom blocks, and administrative facilities. Currently, the schools cater to over 300 students, including 122 boarders, but have only 24 beds available, illustrating the pressing need for assistance. The appeal was made during the IMS 61st Annual N ational Conference, an event focused on raising funds to address the schools' infrastructure challenges. The conference was themed 'The Role of the Muslim in Promoting Peace, Justice and National Cohesion,' underscoring the broader societal contributions intended by the IMS. Alhaji Asante also called upon individuals, organizations, and corporate bodies to contribute towards building dormitories and other essential facilities for the Islamic Mission schools. The need for improved infrastructure was further echoed by Mr. Seidu Iddrisu Yeboah, Deputy Secretary of IMS for the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions, who stressed the necessity for metal beds, separate practical training blocks, and other amenities to accommodate the expanding student body. He highlighted the requirement for dedicated blocks for the automobile, building construction, and electrical departments. In response to these concerns, Mr. Pious Opoku, Tano North Municipal Chief Executive, assured that the construction of dormitories and classr oom blocks would commence under the GETFund project in the first quarter of the coming year.
