Governor of Jakarta  Anies Baswedan suggested to the Java-Bali COVID-19 Task Force Head Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to temporarily suspend face-to-face learning at 100-percent capacity in the capital city for a month.

Baswedan noted here on Wednesday that currently, the central government is deliberating on the Jakarta provincial government’s suggestion, considering that the decision regarding the re-implementation of face-to-face learning is regulated through the Four Ministries Joint Decree on guidelines for the implementation of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The suggestion from the provincial government of Jakarta is to stop face-to-face learning and fully implement remote learning or learning from home. This is currently being discussed, and we will update the result later,” he noted.

He admitted that the Jakarta provincial government could not instantly decide to stop the implementation of face-to-face learning, as it was regulated through a joint decree of four ministers, which was linked to the level of public activity restrictions (PPKM) regulated through the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs.

According to Baswedan , the regulation in implementing face-to-face learning during the enforcement of PPKM is different from when the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) policy was enforced earlier.

“During PSBB, the decisions regarding face-to-face learning were regulated under the governor’s authority. Now, this is regulated through the decision from the central government,” he explained.

Hence, through the communication between the Jakarta provincial government and Head of the Java-Bali COVID-19 Task Force Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Baswedan is optimistic that the suggestion to stop face-to-face learning for a month would be considered.

The Indonesian government had earlier allowed schools to implement face-to-face learning at 100-percent capacity through the issuance of the Four Ministries Joint Decree on guidelines for the implementation of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The joint decree allows regions with Level 1 and 2 public activity restrictions (PPKM) to implement 100-percent face-to-face learning.
