Jakarta gov’t calls for health protocol compliance

Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria has reminded Jakarta’s residents to increase health protocols compliance to accelerate the decline in COVID-19 cases.

“We ask for the support and participation of the community to always comply with the 5M health protocols. Even if the number of COVID-19 cases is declining, it does not mean we are getting more unrestricted (in terms of activity restrictions),” he said.

Instead, all elements of society at large in the province need to support it with strict health protocols so that the acceleration of the decline in cases will be even better, he said here on Thursday.

The reminder on health protocol compliance was issued following rampant violations of health protocols in Jakarta, he noted.

The deputy governor emphasized that the Jakarta provincial government will continue to sanction people who violate the health protocols.

“We will continue to impose sanctions on violators of the health protocols. Thus, we ask all ranks to continue to discipline everyone who violates the health protocols,” he stressed.

He said that he will also ask his staff to increase the applicable sanctions according to the existing stages.

Between 20 and 28 February, 2022, many health protocol violations were reported in Jakarta, he noted. In South Jakarta alone, in the past week, 1,988 residents were caught during health-protocols-compliance operations carried out by the local Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), he said.

Head of the South Jakarta Satpol PP Ujang Hermawan said a number of violators have been caught so far in the mask-wearing operations held in 10 subdistricts in South Jakarta.

According to him, 1,980 of the violators have been given punishment in the form of social work. Meanwhile, the other eight residents have been fined a total of Rp450 thousand, he informed.

The agency is also supervising 423 restaurants spread in the South Jakarta area, he said. As many as 17 business owners have been given written warnings for violating the health protocols so far, he added.
