Jakarta launches water ambulance for Seribu Islands

The provincial government of Jakarta has launched the Abdulrachman Saleh water ambulance in a bid to provide equal access to health services for residents of Seribu Islands district, Governor Anies Baswedan said on Thursday.

“We want those who live on the islands to be able to access equal services. We are sending a message to all residents of the capital city that equal opportunities and services must be present. That means, what is done on land must also be done on islands,” Baswedan remarked at the launch of the Abdulrachman Saleh water ambulance at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday.

The water ambulance has been named after Abdulrachman Saleh, a national hero from Jakarta, a doctor in the early period of independence, a physiologist, a pioneer of radio technology, as well as one of the pioneers in Indonesian aviation, he said.

“The name given is professor doctor Abdulrachman Saleh. Thank you for being here, the family of Mr. Abdulrachman Saleh,” he remarked.

Abdulrahman Saleh, according to Baswedan, is proof that Jakarta is full of heroes who can give their lives while striving for justice.

“We have to give a name that carries a message and Abdulrachman Saleh is very suitable,” he said.

The Abdulrachman Saleh water ambulance is the first emergency water ambulance in the area, he noted. It has three rooms, including an advanced room, an infectious room equipped with a HEPA filter, and a basic and baby room with an incubator, he informed.

The presence of the water ambulance is expected to support the provision of emergency health services, especially for people living on the islands, he said.
