Jakarta, MRT launch digital service for people with disabilities

The Jakarta provincial government, in collaboration with PT Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta, unveiled a digital service facility for people with disabilities at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle (Bundaran HI) MRT station.

“We are committed to providing facilities that are equal for all residents (in Jakarta). Some of our residents, such as people with disabilities, need special services,” Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan stated at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle (Bundaran HI) MRT station here, Friday.

The facility provided by the Jakarta government and PT MRT for people with disabilities is the Digital Intelligent Assistant, or called “Dina.”

Through Dina, disabled people, who are passengers of MRT, can utilize the technology to facilitate their experience, which is the video call service.

Later, operators in charge of operations centers, for instance, at the Bundaran HI Station, can communicate directly with passengers with disabilities.

The launch of the facility also aims to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, celebrated on December 3 annually. The governor reminded Jakarta’s residents to steer clear of thinking that they are above people with disabilities since everyone is equal.

“We are all equal, the same. It is just that we have different needs. This is the principle that is being adopted in Jakarta. For that reason, I laud MRT for having facilitated this,” Baswedan stated.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda), William Sabandar, stated that three MRT stations — Lebak Bulus Station, Blok M Station, and Bundaran HI Station — had implemented the Dina service.

Sabandar affirmed that his side will implement this disability-friendly service at all stations.

“We are providing a disability-friendly digital service that we call Dina. This initiative is the first in Indonesia, and only three countries in the world — the United States, Canada, and Hong Kong — have implemented it,” the MRT president director stated.
