Jakarta ready to support Indonesia’s 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship

The Jakarta provincial government is ready to support Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year and take concrete measures to materialise the support, acting governor Heru Budi Hartono affirmed.

“Jakarta is ready to support and ensure the success of this international event,” Hartono stated, as quoted from the provincial government’s official website on Sunday.

The authority will take all necessary measures to ensure Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship a success, including by instructing regional work units to prepare facilities and infrastructure relevant to events organised for the chairmanship, he said.

Intensive communication between the provincial authority and the central government would also be established for the ASEAN chairmanship, he noted.

“Jakarta authority will be consistent in coordinating with the central government to conceive and draft the event concepts later,” Hartono said.

Various events regarding Indonesia’s ASEAN chairmanship would take place from May to December 2023. However, the acting governor did not disclose the exact timetable of the events.

He also appealed to Jakartans to support the provincial authority and the central government for the success of the ASEAN chairmanship.

“We encourage all Jakartans to be involved in the success of this international agenda. This is not merely the reflection of Indonesia to the global community, but it will also create the potential of economic growth for Jakarta MSMEs,” Hartono stated.

President Joko Widodo officially kicked off Indonesia’s 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship at the launching event in Hotel Indonesia Roundabout here, Sunday.

Indonesia adopted the theme “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth” for its chairmanship, which reflects what the country is seeking to achieve this year.

Indonesia took over the ASEAN Chairmanship from its previous holder Cambodia at the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on November 14, 2022.
