Jintawan Traisaranakul Secures Victory in Sisaket By-Election with Bhumjaithai Party

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has concluded the Sisaket by-election, with the results expected to be announced within 60 days. The by-election for Sisaket Constituency 5 MP saw Jintawan Traisaranakul of the Bhumjaithai Party emerge victorious with 40,246 votes, amidst a voter turnout of 59.95%.

According to Thai News Agency, the election was held to fill a vacant House of Representatives seat in Sisaket Province’s Constituency 5, which includes Khun Han and Phusing districts. Out of 127,153 eligible voters, 76,231 participated in the election. Of the ballots cast, 71,823 were valid (94.22%), 1,896 were invalid (2.49%), and 2,512 were ballots with no votes cast (3.29%).

The candidate with the second-highest number of votes was Ms. Phurikha Sommai of the Pheu Thai Party, who received 31,577 votes. As per Section 125 of the 2018 Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives, the candidate with the highest number of votes is elected, provided that the election is deemed honest and fair.

The ECT is responsible for examining the vote count, addressing any complaints regarding election law violations, and ensuring the election’s integrity. If no reasonable grounds for suspicion arise, and no objections are filed within the legally stipulated timeframe, the ECT will announce the election results no later than 60 days after the election day, in line with Section 127 of the 2018 Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives.
