Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) departed for Washington D.C. on Tuesday morning to attend a two-day ASEAN-US Special Summit.

During his visit to Washington DC, the president will also hold a series of meetings with several prominent figures.

“The series of meetings that I will attend include a meeting with members of (the US) Congress, a meeting with CEOs of US large (companies) and a meeting with (US) Vice President (Kamala) Harris as well as the US climate change team,” Jokowi stated prior to departing for Washington D.C. from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport

Indonesia is currently the coordinator of the ASEAN-US partnership for the 2021-2024 term, Jokowi stated.

Indonesia expects the ASEAN-US Special Summit to come up with cooperation that may contribute to creating peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

“With the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, the ASEAN is ready to synergize with its all partner countries, including the US, in developing concrete, inclusive, and mutually beneficial cooperation. We take responsibility for making the Indo-Pacific region a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region,” the president noted.
