Justice Minister Opens 68th International Narcotics Conference Focusing on Methamphetamine Crisis

Bangkok: The Minister of Justice inaugurated the 68th International Narcotics Conference, concentrating on the methamphetamine issue. The event aims to find solutions to the global threat posed by methamphetamine, emphasizing education and legal reforms as key strategies.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong, the Minister of Justice, presided over the opening ceremony of the 2025 International Narcotics Conference. During the event, he delivered a special lecture titled “Yaba Problems in Thailand and Policy Responses,” highlighting lessons learned and a systematic review aimed at improving Thai drug policy.

Pol. Col. Thawee discussed the increasing prevalence of methamphetamine, particularly among youth, noting that it constitutes a major issue as 80 percent of narcotics in Thailand are methamphetamine. He pointed out that over 30 million people worldwide, including 2 million Thais, are affected by methamphetamine, making it a problem that requires joint action from all countries. Thailand has proposed enhancing education, reforming laws, and researching methamphetamine substitutes. The Minister plans to exchange research with international organizations at the conference to ensure a safe and sustainable future.
