Srinagar: A senior police official in Indian-administered Kashmir stated on Saturday that a blast at a Nowgam police station, resulting in the death of nine people, was accidental. The official highlighted that further speculation regarding the cause of the explosion was unnecessary.
According to Thai News Agency, Jammu and Kashmir Police Commissioner Nalin Prabhat confirmed that the explosion occurred when a seized explosive device detonated at the police station. The incident resulted in the death of nine individuals and injuries to 27 police officers, two revenue officers, and three civilians from nearby areas.
Commissioner Prabhat explained that the forensic science laboratory team had been handling the seized explosives with care during the sample collection process. However, an unexpected explosion took place at approximately 11:20 pm Indian time, or 12:50 am Saturday morning in Thailand.
The accidental blast occurred just four days after a deadly car bombing in New Delhi, which killed at least eight people. The Indian government identified that incident as a terrorist attack.
