Accra: The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has announced plans for a mass burial of unclaimed and unidentified bodies due to severe congestion at its mortuary. A statement issued by the Hospital and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the mortuary had reached full capacity, necessitating measures to decongest the facility. According to Ghana News Agency, management appealed to relatives, next of kin, or persons with an interest in any of the bodies to contact the Hospital within 21 days of the notice to make the necessary arrangements. The statement said the deadline for claims was on or before January 18, 2026. "Records indicate that about 320 unclaimed bodies are expected to be included in the exercise," it said. The statement said all bodies remaining unclaimed after the deadline would be buried in accordance with approved procedures and relevant regulations. It said the mass burial exercise would be carried out in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly. Management appealed to the public for und erstanding and cooperation throughout the exercise.
