Bangkok: His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen officially opened the Chakri Thotsamaramathibodin Building at Chulalongkorn Hospital, part of the Thai Red Cross Society, this afternoon. Their Majesties were welcomed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the Vice President and Director of the Thai Red Cross Society, marking a significant occasion for the hospital located in the Pathumwan District.
According to Thai News Agency, the Chakri Thotsamaramathibodin Building was constructed to expand outpatient services and enhance access to medical care. The 15-storey structure, with four basement floors, covers an area of approximately 50,000 square meters. It features modern technology for efficient patient services, including systematic screening for infectious diseases. The building’s design aims to provide a comfortable waiting area and is considered a model for outpatient care, elevating the standards of medical and public health services to international levels. graciously named the building, bestowing it with the royal initials ‘W.P.R.’ It is set to open for service in June 2024.
Following the inauguration, His Majesty viewed the ‘Sustain, Preserve, Develop’ exhibition, inspired by his first royal command. Located in the Wachirunhis Building corridor, the ‘Sustain’ zone highlights historical developments, from the establishment of Chulalongkorn Hospital by King Rama VI in 1914 to its current capacity to treat over 10,000 outpatients daily and more than 2 million annually. The facility is also equipped to handle over 200,000 complex and difficult cases each year.
On the first floor of the Chakri Thotsamaramadhibodin Building, the ‘Treatment’ zone displayed Chulalongkorn Hospital’s current technological advancements and the success of the ‘Light of Hope’ project. This initiative, in honor of His Majesty’s 60th Birthday Anniversary, provided advanced medical treatments, such as proton cancer therapy, robotic surgeries, and specialized spinal and corneal disease treat
ments, improving the quality of life for numerous patients.
The second floor’s ‘Extend’ zone showcases future-oriented technological implementations aimed at increasing service efficiency and speed. Innovations include drug dispensing and screening robots, thyroid cancer treatment robots, and the integration of artificial intelligence in service processes, all designed to streamline patient care.
The Chakri Thotsamaramathibodi Building embodies His Majesty the King’s commitment to providing equitable medical treatment to all citizens, aligning with the Thai Red Cross Society’s principles of equality in service provision. It stands as a testament to Siam’s aspiration to match the healthcare standards of other advanced nations.
