The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) is striving to ensure that everyone in Indonesia has access to electricity by encouraging the development of electricity networks all over the country.

One of the measures taken by the office to pursue the goal has been the signing of a letter of cooperation between related ministries and non-government agencies, which aims to further establish electricity networks, particularly in Maluku and North Maluku.

“(Improving) The rate of electrification ratio in Maluku area still needs hard work from everyone, whether it is to supply the source of electricity, or (the infrastructure that supports the) electricity network,” deputy I of the KSP, Febry Calvin Tetelepta, said in a statement received here on Thursday.

While leading a coordination meeting on the development, operation, and maintenance of the Maluku medium voltage network program, he said that state electricity company PLN’s electrification ratio in Maluku province has reached 94.6 percent.

The figure shows that there are still people in Maluku who are yet to have access to electricity. Tetelepta disclosed that the government is aiming to increase that ratio to 97.1 percent in 2022.

Thus, the Presidential Staff Office is encouraging the establishment of 20 kV medium voltage networks in Pasahari-Wahai Olong and Saleman to ensure the uniform distribution of electricity networks across Maluku, as well as their development, operation, and maintenance.

“Not only ensuring access to electricity for all Indonesian citizens, but the government is also ensuring that all activities aimed to fulfill the public need for electricity do not interfere with nature conservation,” Tetelepta added.

The Pasahari-Wahai Olong medium voltage network is 10 kilometers long and stretches across the Manusela National Park in Seram, Central Maluku district, while the Saleman medium voltage network spans 4.3 km in length.

The office is continuously collaborating with the Environment and Forestry Ministry to ensure the poles for the two networks do not disturb the ecosystem and biodiversity conservation in the national park.
