Lampung led the medal tally in hapkido martial art, one of the 10 exhibition matches at the 2021 Papua National Sports Week (PON) XX after bagging four gold medals and one silver medal.
The hapkido games were held in Sentani, Jayapura district, on September 24-25, 2021.
The four gold medals were grabbed by Dio Oktavianus in the under 58 kg class, Yansa Eko Sugiono (under 62 kg), Tiana Silviani (under 51 kg) and Yunita Sari (59 kg class).
Meanwhile, Ida Ayu Putu Andini under 67 kilograms bagged the silver medal.
“This is a pride for us. This is a momentum for us to forge our spirit and practice more to become even better,” an official of Lampung provincial hapkido committee Ida Bagus Wiguna said here on Sunday.
Lampung’s hapkido team, he said, has focused on pursuing and maintaining the achievement at all level of sport events, particularly at the next PON in 2024.
Wiguna has called on athletes to continue practising to maintain the achievement.
“Thank you for the support of KONI (Indonesian Sports Committee), for its full attention on the exhibition games of the Papua PON XX this year. I hope that this could be sustained,” he noted.
Yogyakarta emerged as the runner up with three gold medals, one silver medal, and three bronze medals. Meanwhile, West Sumatera achieved the third position with one gold medal, two silvers, and one bronze.
As many as 15 provinces partook in hapkido match.
The 10 exhibition matches at Papua PON comprise kick boxing, sambo, kurash, triathlon, kabaddi, ju-jitsu, hapkido, paramotor, e-sport, and modern pentathlon.
