Law Ministry destroys counterfeit Louis Vuitton items

The Law and Human Rights Ministry destroyed fake Louis Vuitton items after processing the case of intellectual property violation through legal means.

“The destroyed pieces of evidence were in form of Louis Vuitton brand replicas of trolley bags, women’s handbags, makeup handbags, and women’s purses,” Director of Investigation and Dispute Resolution of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property, Anom Wibowo, noted in a written statement received here on Tuesday.

Destruction of the evidence was conducted along with the Law and Human Rights’ Bali Regional Office. The counterfeit goods were destroyed after the legal process was complete.

To address the issues of intellectual property infringement in Indonesia, the Directorate General of Intellectual Property continuously expedited the dissemination of information to the public regarding the importance of respecting the intellectual property rights of other people’s works. This can be achieved by refraining from buying and selling counterfeit products or pirated items.

They also continue to enhance their capabilities and coordinate with all Intellectual Property Civil Investigators of the Law and Human Rights Ministry across 33 regional offices nationally.

Wibowo deemed the measure as vital to address the complaints of intellectual property infringement.

He expects the public, as consumers and business players, to be more prudent in buying and marketing products.

On the occasion, he urged people with intellectual property products to immediately register them with the ministry.

In general, this activity is part of an intellectual property law enforcement effort to get Indonesia out of the Priority Watch List (PWL) status by early 2022.

Countries included on the PWL list are considered as nations having quite serious intellectual property violations. The data was released by the United States Trade Representative.
