Makassar: Indonesia’s Minister Outlines Youth Development Agenda for ‘Golden Indonesia 2045’

Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) – During the national working meeting of the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) in Makassar, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, detailed an agenda for fostering the country’s youth to achieve the vision of ‘Golden Indonesia 2045’. This vision coincides with the celebration of Indonesia’s centenary of independence, aiming to establish the nation as independent, sovereign, just, and prosperous.

According to Antara News Agency, the youth of Indonesia, particularly those currently aged 18 and above, are the backbone of the nation and will play a pivotal role in realizing this ambitious goal. He emphasized that in the next 22 years, these young individuals will become the nation’s leaders, guiding Indonesia towards its envisioned future.

Highlighting Indonesia’s current status, with a gross domestic product (GDP) of US$5,000 per capita, Effendy underscored the need to significantly boost the GDP to achieve a developed country status with US$30,600 per capita by 2045. He pointed out that achieving this target requires multiplying the current GDP by six times. He acknowledged that while Indonesia’s economic growth is commendably better compared to other major countries, much work remains to reach the desired economic milestone.

The acting governor of South Sulawesi, Bahtiar Baharuddin, noted the importance of ICMI’s national working meeting, emphasizing its role in providing insights into domestic political contestancy for the 2024 elections. All presidential candidates were invited to share their strategies for building Indonesia at the forum, marking it as a significant event for political discourse.

Baharuddin mentioned that the choice of Makassar as the forum’s venue was due to its conducive environment and the city’s history of producing many national political figures. This meeting serves as a critical platform for discussing and shaping the future trajectory of Indonesia, particularly in the context of its youth development and overall national progress towards the ‘Golden Indonesia 2045’ vision.
