Kuala lumpur: Malaysian Foreign Minister called Maris to invite him to a meeting of the three foreign ministers. The meeting aims to address the ongoing Thai-Cambodian border issue. The Malaysian Foreign Minister suggested that the meeting should take place after the conclusion of the General Border Committee (GBC) discussions between the Thai and Cambodian defense ministers. He also expressed concerns about Cambodia’s actions, indicating plans to send observers to the border area before the GBC results are released. Additionally, he requested Malaysia’s assistance in reminding Cambodia to refrain from spreading false information.
According to Thai News Agency, Foreign Minister Maris Sngiampong disclosed that the invitation to meet with the trilateral foreign ministers of Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia was extended to discuss a resolution for the Thai-Cambodian border issue. Maris acknowledged Malaysia’s constructive role as the ASEAN Chair and expressed his willingness to meet. However, he emphasized that the immediate priority should be the GBC meeting, which is set to address the implementation of the ceasefire agreement. The Malaysian Foreign Minister concurred with Thailand’s stance.
Mr. Maris further communicated Thailand’s concerns over Cambodia’s decision to deploy a temporary observer delegation to the border area before the GBC can finalize an agreement. He also highlighted the issue of false information being disseminated by Cambodia, which he believes hinders the resolution process. Maris urged Malaysia to reinforce these concerns with Cambodia.
