Man Who Shot Wife in Phetkasem Area Detained, Remains Silent on Motive

Bangkok: A young man who fatally shot his wife in the Phetkasem area has been detained, with authorities yet to determine his motive as he remains silent, opting to give his statement in court.

According to Thai News Agency, police at Phetkasem Police Station have taken Mr. Mipapat, the suspect, to the Thonburi Criminal Court for initial detention. The incident occurred in Soi Phetkasem 67, Intersection 8, where the suspect allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend in a car. Despite questions from reporters about his motive, Mr. Mipapat only offered a slight smile and muttered without elaborating.

As he was escorted to the prisoner’s vehicle, Mr. Mipapat expressed remorse when asked if he wanted to apologize to the deceased, tearfully conveying his love to his son. The investigator has charged him with intentional murder, carrying a firearm in public, firing a firearm in public without just cause, and possession of a firearm without permission. However, Mr. Mipapat has denied all charges and has chosen to remain silent during the investigation, with his brother and lawyer present during the process.

Investigators have noted that Mr. Mipapat spoke mainly to his brother, appearing confused and incoherent, seemingly in shock over the incident. Despite sufficient evidence, the investigators are still unable to ascertain the exact motive behind the shooting. They are continuing to gather additional evidence, including examining the bullet trajectory and determining the suspect’s car location at the time of the incident.

During the arrest, numerous guns were found on a table in the suspect’s room, which were mostly toy or air guns, suggesting Mr. Mipapat likely has an interest in collecting gun-related items.
