Management of state properties mirrors nation’s character: Sri Mulyani

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani believes that a nation’s approach to managing its assets reflected the outlook or character of the country and its civilization.

“Hence, we will continue to encourage all ministries or institutions that manage and have an important role in utilizing State Properties (BMN) to continuously record achievements,” she stated at the online State Wealth Appreciation event here on Monday.

This encouragement is part of the joint efforts of all ministries and agencies to continue to build the character and civilization of Indonesia.

She stressed that BMN did not surface all of a sudden or out of nowhere. She elaborated that these state assets were gained through efforts and state financial processes that required sacrifices and at times even extensive efforts to be made.

“These (state properties) have resulted from state finances. Hence, if you look at the source, it is obtained through state revenue or from debt, with the result being State Properties,” Sri Mulyani elaborated.

The minister additionally urged all ministries and agencies to inform the public of the use of BMN in a transparent manner. The BMN are not only used for meeting the state’s needs but also for providing enormous benefits to the community, she remarked.

Sri Mulyani called on gaining a public understanding that state assets belonged to all Indonesian people. Hence, they should not only view BMN as structures but as something acquired through the state finance that offered tangible benefits to the citizens as a whole.

“State Properties can also provide benefits for the economy, nation, and state, which continues to build the civilization within Indonesia (as a) nation and globally,” the minister remarked.
