Mass media instrumental in informing about Indonesia’s G20 Presidency

National and foreign media have a role in disseminating information on Indonesia’s G20 Presidency priority issues of global healthcare architecture, energy transition, and digital transformation, according to the Presidential Staff Office (KSP).

“Those three issues need constant cooperation and collaboration with all parties to be successful, and it will need more than the government’s (involvement). Mass media could raise those issues to help the people understand what issues are being discussed in G20 meetings and encourage residents’ active participation in those issues,” KSP Communication Strategy Team official Dilla Amran stated here, Wednesday.

Amran drew attention to the issue of global healthcare architecture, especially the pandemic fund established to help bolster the global community’s efforts in preparing for possible future pandemics, as a matter that the media could highlight.

The pandemic fund would be used to fund peer-to-peer learning in the healthcare system, emergency communication, and other purposes to bolster pandemic readiness, the official noted.

According to Amran, Indonesian professional human resources could access the funding to learn and share new knowledge with other countries.

“The mass media’s role is to disseminate (information) about the pandemic fund to encourage the professionals to actively participate in it,” she remarked.

Indonesia will host the G20 Summit, organized under its Presidency, in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) earlier stated that 17 heads of state and government had confirmed their attendance at the summit.

“I think, in a normal condition, it is normal for 17-18 people (state and government heads) to attend (the summit). However, currently, it is a very difficult situation for all countries, so if the number of attendees reaches the (mentioned) number (of 17-18 people), I think it is very good,” he stated on Tuesday (November 8).

The president emphasized that the presence of heads of state and government at the summit was a matter of honor for Indonesia, given the current unfavourable global conditions.
