West Java’s Depok municipal authority reported that vaccination coverage in the city has reached 537,091 people, or some 33 percent of the 1,613,557 individuals targeted under the vaccination program in the city.

“The 500 thousand figure indicates only the recipients of the first vaccine dosage as of September 2, 2021,” Depok Mayor Mohammad Idris stated on Saturday.

Mayor Idris elaborated that around 349,978 people had received their second vaccine dose, while another 6,103 health workers had received the third booster vaccine dosage allocated for them.

To boost vaccination coverage in the city, the authority had hosted mass vaccination drives at Depok’s 11 sub-districts on September 1-5, 2021. The daily target for each vaccination center is set at 600 to one thousand recipients, Idris stated. “Residents should register for vaccination through their local community officers,” he remarked.

Until the second day of the vaccination drive, the authority had administered vaccines to 21,476 people, or some 94.95 percent of the total applicants. The inoculation of another 1,143 people was delayed on account of health issues, comorbidity, and underage reasons, Idris noted.

He pointed out that Cimanggis Sub-district had recorded the maximum coverage reach among sub-districts by receiving vaccine registration from 2,710 people and having administered the vaccine to 2,580 people, with a 95.20-percent acceptance rate. Idris urged regional authorities and residents to support vaccination drives in Depok to accelerate herd immunity in the city and allow for relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions. He also reminded vaccinated residents to remain cautious and consistent in observing health protocols at home and public spaces.

“Our success to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic depends on our discipline to enforce health protocols. We should also be consistent in praying to God to alleviate the COVID-19 pandemic and ease our efforts to control the pandemic,” Mayor Idris affirmed.
