Meeting vaccination target crucial for 2021 WSBK success: minister

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has said that the successful implementation of the 2021 Mandalika World Superbike (WSBK) event will require the fulfillment of the vaccination target for West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

In a statement received here on Wednesday, he informed that his ministry has collaborated with various stakeholders to expedite vaccinations among the community ahead of WSBK.

“Hence, we are working together quickly since WSBK will take place in the next few weeks and President Joko Widodo will review the preparation. The vaccination becomes the main requirement for the success of the international event,” he stated while visiting a vaccination center in Central Lombok District, NTB province.

The racing event would revive tourism and the creative economy sectors, both in Lombok Island and  the rest of Indonesia, he affirmed.

In addition, the international event will show the world that Indonesia is ready to host the G20 Summit next year, he remarked.

As of Wednesday, the first dose vaccination rate in NTB province has reached 58.2 percent, while the coverage for the second dose has reached 24.7 percent, he noted.

Meanwhile, 70.4 percent of residents of Central Lombok district have received the first dose and 31.8 percent have received the second dose, he added.

“As of Wednesday, there are 602,438 tourism and creative sector players who have been vaccinated in 71 vaccination centers collaborating with the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry in various regions. The number has exceeded our target,” Uno informed.

Furthermore, in collaboration with Homecare24 Enesis Group, 250 thousand hand sanitizers and dispensers will be disbursed to all tourist villages in Central Lombok district, he added.

The attempt is aimed at curbing the transmission of COVID-19 among the people so that they can recover their economy and health, he said.
