Meteorological Department Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Thailand’s Northern Regions

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department warns the Northeast, Central, and Southern regions to brace for heavy rain that could lead to flash floods and mudslides. The Meteorological Department has reported heavy rain in some areas of the Northeast, Central, and South, with very heavy rain in some areas of Bangkok and its vicinity, and in the Eastern region, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, and Trat provinces.

According to Thai News Agency, residents should be cautious of the dangers posed by heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could result in flash floods and mudslides, especially on hillsides near waterways and lowlands. This weather condition is attributed to the monsoon trough passing through the lower North, upper Central, and lower Northeast regions. Additionally, a moderate southwest monsoon continues to prevail over the Andaman Sea, the South, and the Gulf of Thailand.

In the upper Andaman Sea, waves are moderate with heights reaching approximately 2 meters. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, wave heights exceed 2 meters. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are seeing waves of 1-2 meters, with higher waves in thunderstorm conditions. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas affected by thunderstorms.

Moreover, a tropical depression located over the upper South China Sea is anticipated to make landfall in southern China between September 8th and 9th. However, this storm is not expected to have a direct impact on Thailand’s weather patterns.
