Meteorological Department Issues Warning of Potentially Severe Weather for Parts of Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in several regions across Thailand, including Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Trat. Residents in these areas should exercise caution due to the potential dangers of heavy rain, which could lead to flash floods and forest runoff. In Bangkok and its surrounding areas, there is a 60% likelihood of thunderstorms along with heavy rain in select locations.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department predicts that thunderstorms and heavy rain will persist across Thailand over the next 24 hours. The identified regions, particularly those on hillsides, near waterways, and in low-lying areas, are at risk of flash floods and forest runoff due to accumulated rainfall. This weather pattern is influenced by a low-pressure cell over northern Vietnam and a strong southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Maritime conditions are also expected to be turbulent. The upper Andaman Sea will experience strong waves, reaching heights of 2-3 meters, with even higher waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms. The lower Andaman Sea will see waves of approximately 2 meters, while the upper Gulf of Thailand will have waves 1-2 meters high, increasing in stormy conditions. Mariners are advised to navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms, with small boats in the upper Andaman Sea advised to remain ashore during this period.

In Bangkok and its vicinity, weather forecasts indicate thunderstorms across 60% of the area, with heavy rain expected in some parts. Temperatures will range from a minimum of 26-27 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 33-36 degrees Celsius.
