Minister Indrawati, FATF president discuss Indonesia’s full membership

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) President Raja Kumar discussed Indonesia’s full membership in the task force on Wednesday. They met at the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-World Bank Spring Meetings 2023 in Washington, the United States. “Indonesia’s membership in the FATF will have a good impact,” Indrawati noted in her statement here on Monday. The minister elaborated that the good impact derived would be in the form of positive perceptions of the financial system in Indonesia and an improvement in the investment climate in the country. In 2022, Indonesia underwent a Mutual Evaluation Review (MER) by the FATF to assess its fitness to be a full member of the task force. The membership proposal was submitted by the Ministry of Finance in 2017. Indrawati said she highly honored the FATF Secretariat’s support for Indonesia officially becoming an FATF member, which is expected in June 2023. She affirmed that several of FATF’s strategic priorities align with Indonesia’s development priorities. Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD expressed optimism that Indonesia would officially become an FATF member in June 2023. He explained that Indonesia had almost completed all stages to join FATF, including the completion of priority action plans on asset forfeiture as well as the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill into law. “We received the news from the Finance Minister (Indrawati), and she informed that the action plans on asset forfeiture and others related to TPPU (eradication of money laundering) can be completed on April 21,” Mahfud noted in a press conference here on Friday (April 14). Mahfud stated that the action plans to be discussed with all FATF members at a plenary session in June 2023 have actually been completed. “(The document) is already in the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), and we just need to discuss, approve, and submit it,” he remarked. baca-jugaRelated news: Indonesian finance minister holds bilateral meeting with EU-ABCRelated news: ASEAN consistently contributing 3% to global GDP: ministerRelated news: Minister discusses financial sector at bilateral meeting with US ABC
