Minister of Agriculture Responds to Shooting Incident at Or Tor Kor Market

Bangkok: “Atthakorn” rushed to the scene of the shooting incident in the middle of Or Tor Kor Market. According to Thai News Agency, on July 28, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, said while visiting the area to follow up on a shooting incident at the Agricultural Marketing Organization (A.T.O.) market in Chatuchak District, Bangkok, that he, as the supervisor of the Agricultural Marketing Organization (A.T.O.), immediately arrived at the scene upon receiving the report. He stated that details of the perpetrator and motive are pending a clarification from the police, but he was present to facilitate officials’ work and to monitor the situation. He coordinated with Mr. Panithan Meechaiyo, Director of the Agricultural Marketing Organization (A.T.O.), and confirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture’s policy is to ensure the A.T.O. market remains a safe area.

“I would like to express my condolences to the families of the deceased and injured. I will be attending to this matter. I will visit and talk with them at the hospital. I assure you that I will provide full assistance as a member of the A.T.G. family,” said Mr. Atthakorn.

Mr. Atthakorn added that an incident like this has never occurred at the Or Tor Kor Market before. He stated that he would like to hear the full details from the police investigation first, and will consider the facts to determine preventative measures. He stated that he does not wish to speak without confirmation, as this could lead to misinformation. However, he confirmed that the cause stemmed from a personal conflict.

Mr. Atthakorn then immediately traveled to visit the injured at Phyathai 2 Hospital.
