The Women’s Empowerment and Children Protection Ministry highlighted several methods that parents can apply to ensure digital prosperity for their children or ascertain their academic success without being distracted by less educational content.
Parents play a huge role in helping children create a safe digital space without distractions that could potentially lower their loved ones’ studying capacity.
“There is a certain demand for students to be able to self-learn at home through technology,” the Ministry’s Children Special Protection from Violence Assistant Deputy Ciput Eka Purwianti noted in her statement on Wednesday.
“Hence, it is necessary to have a conducive, effective learning method without distraction in order to develop the children’s study performance,” she remarked.
By making preparations to ensure digital prosperity for children, they would receive optimal quality of education, and it would also maintain their quality of life.
The first method that parents could adopt to prepare for their children’s digital prosperity is to start outlining a list of activities for them, so that online and offline activities could be equally split.
Parents should prepare a limit for the extent of time that their children could access their gadget. They should also ensure that children are not distracted to play a game or watch streaming content while accessing their gadget.
The other method is to have parents download the study material offline, so that it would reduce the amount of time their children spent on staring at an electronic screen.
Parents could also turn off application notifications that are unrelated to studying when their children are using a gadget, so that they would stay focussed on their online school activities.
In addition to preparing a safety net, parents should teach their children to independently protect themselves by sifting out positive and negative content.
Children should be molded and trained in a way so as to always choose positive content while accessing gadgets in order to avoid distracting negative content.
“Education on digital prosperity, such as this, could become a preventive strategy, so that students could avoid digital risks that could result in a reduction in their learning capacity,” Purwianti affirmed.
