Indonesian Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and Finland’s representatives discussed opportunities to cooperate for development of Indonesia’s future capital city (IKN) Nusantara that focused on smart city and waste water management.
“After this meeting, the Director General of Public Works and Housing Infrastructure Financing will follow up to determine the agreed cooperation scheme, and then the Director General will technically handle it according to their respective fields,” the minister noted in a statement received here, Thursday.
Hadimuljono held a bilateral meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Trade of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nina Vaskunlahti, and Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia Pekka Kaihilahti.
He said that his ministry is open to establishing cooperation in the development of IKN Nusantara by prioritizing new technological innovations, especially to support environmental sustainability.
“Furthermore, according to President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) directives, every potential foreign investor is required to have a branch office and a fabrication center in Indonesia. For example, the Indonesian government already has land prepared in the Batang Integrated Industrial Area (KIT) in Central Java for investors. They only need to bring the technology and open the factory,” he noted.
Hadimuljono added that the Indonesian government has guaranteed ease of licensing for opening construction business permits in Indonesia for investors.
“All permits will be assisted by the Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board and monitored directly by the president,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Vaskunlahti expressed interest in seeing the follow up of the meeting.
“We came together with several companies in Finland engaged in construction and technological innovation for environmental sustainability,” she explained.
Earlier, the PUPR Ministry had also cooperated with several countries, such as South Korea, to participate in building a clean water system at IKN Nusantara and Japan with an infrastructure transportation project at IKN Nusantara.
